Making It Programme - TheMusicWorks
Making It is a mentoring, training and work experience programme aimed at empowering young people to believe in themselves.

Making It is for young offenders and those on the edge of the criminal justice system aged 14 to 18, referred to us by the county’s youth support/justice team. The Making It programme uses music to engage with those at risk of becoming involved in crime or violence, working with them to support them away from the criminal justice system.

For the young people attending Making It, the programme offers 20 one-to-one sessions with a music leader and helps to support a young person into positive progression by:

  • Improving levels of confidence, self-esteem, resilience, and motivation and raise aspirations
  • Reducing incidence of anti-social behaviour and offending
  • Increasing the number engaged in training, education or employment
  • Providing the opportunity of getting involved in our other regular creative projects - performing, organising events, work experience and volunteering

Our work is being recognised

Making It has won awards for its positive impact on young people’s lives in the community of Gloucestershire. The pilot programme was delivered to 48 young people at risk of (re)offending. 73% of this cohort went onto get work, further education, or training. On the basis of this, we won the Association of Youth Offending’s Award for best delivery programme in the UK.

Most recently, the programme was awarded the Crime Prevention and Innovation award at the OPCC Impact Awards 2022.
