  1. When does the programme start?

The programme will begin in July and starts with an on boarding process of the new cohort; where you meet the Upsurge staff, alumni and have your first 1-1 mentoring session!

  1. Who can apply to the programme?

Artists and Creatives aged 18-30 who are looking to develop their career in the music industry.

  1. I can’t upload my application, what do I need to do next?

Email upsurge@themusicworks.org.uk to submit directly to the Upsurge team!

  1. Which strand of Upsurge should I apply for?

Artist Development: For musicians and sound artists who create, perform, or produce music – focused on developing your artistic practice and performance career

Creative Development: For those interested in the other roles of creative industries – including management, promotion, production, and entrepreneurship

Studio Engineering: For those focused on pursuing technical audio careers – including recording engineering, sound design, mixing, and live sound production

  1. How much does it cost to be on the programme?

Our talent development programme is FREE – all we ask for is dedication and passion for what you do!

  1. What should I include in my application?

Complete the personal information section, include 2 links to your music or portfolio, and tell us why now is the right time for you is to be on the programme!

  1. How long is the programme?

The programme runs from July-April, 10 months in total!

  1. Can I apply if I am a part of a band or creative collective?

Yes, we welcome applications from bands and creative collectives. However, you’ll need to nominate one person as the lead applicant, and all members must meet our eligibility criteria.

  1. What level of commitment is required during the programme?

We require at least 8-10 hours of your time per month. This covers your 1-1 mentoring sessions, and any masterclasses/group sessions you are required to attend.

  1. Can I reapply if my application was unsuccessful last year?

Absolutely! We would love to hear from you and about the progression you’ve made over the past year!

  1. What happens after I submit my application?

Applications close on 6th June. The Upsurge team will then review the applications, a shortlist will be made by our Youth and Music Industry Advisory boards, and then those who are successful will be contacted!

  1. What can I expect from the programme?

You can expect to receive monthly 1-1 mentoring sessions, access to a team full of  music industry expertise, industry knowledge and connections, specialist masterclasses and group sessions, studio access and so so much more!!
